This mural is designed to serve as the entrance of a museum exhibit about the portrayal of women in art and writing of a religious context. This lyric demonstrates the common misconception that women, particularly women’s sexuality, lure men away from righteousness and into sin. The scarlet “her” brands women in this context, while at the same time the surrounding words cover parts of “her” as if she should be hidden.

“Why I see her dancing there, why her smoldering eyes still scorch my soul.”

—Claude Frollo, Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame
